Jobs in renewable energy sector see sharp spike in India 
India's ambitious aim to install 160 GW of renewable energy by 2022 will have a positive impact on the country's jobs market, a new study has predicted. The study says that more than 300,000 full-time workers will be needed in these five years and there's potential to create around one million employment opportunities.

GST Implementation May Create Upto 1 Lakh Jobs: Infosys Co-Founder 
The country may see 10 thousand to 1 lakh jobs being created in the next six months to support the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) reform, according to Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan.He said, "Every year we need to create about 20 million new jobs, though I have not seen any data or report. So, in my estimate, probably in next six months, we will see, may be 10,000 to 1 lakh jobs being created to support GST implementation."

India largest provider of 'online labour' 
India is the largest supplier of online labour, says a recent report, analysing data from e-platforms connecting freelancers with employers. India is followed by Bangladesh, US, Pakistan, Philippines and the UK in what is being termed "digital gig work" or freelance work offered online. Over half of the online work supplied out of India is dominated by software development and technology sector.

IT sector to see up to 38% fewer jobs this fiscal 
In what comes as a harbinger of turbulent times setting in for the IT sector, Nasscom has said the industry would create 20-38% fewer jobs in FY18 compared to fiscal 2017. The industry would create 1.3-1.5 lakh new jobs (lateral plus campus) in FY18 while it had added 1.8 lakh jobs in FY17. At its peak, the sector added nearly 2.40 lakh jobs a year.

With programming competitions or 'code contests' gaining popularity, a study has revealed that 45% respondents received job offers by participating in such coding competitions. The study revealed that not just coders, employees and participants think code contests are a great platform to hone their skill and being recognised, employers too look forward to these competitions in order to identify and hire the best brains in the field.

Omega Healthcare to hike Bengaluru headcount by 25%, hire 1,000 in 6 months 
Mid-size BPO firm Omega Healthcare said it would hire 1,000 people in the next six months in Bengaluru. The healthcare services provider, which earns largest chunk of its revenues from the US, has 4,000 employees in that city. "Our business has been expanding both horizontally and vertically as a result of which we have been hiring continuously for the various services we provide, " said Gopi Natarajan, co-founder and CEO, Omega Healthcare.

Alstom to expand engineering centre headcount by 700 
French multinational company Alstom’s engineering centre in Bengaluru is gearing up to expand not only in terms of headcount but also in contribution to global operations. The centre, the company’s largest engineering hub globally, designs products and solutions for India as well as the rest of the world.

This is the best workplace in India; No, it’s not Google 
Intuit India, which ranked 10 th on best employers list in India in 2016, climbed up nine spots and is now the best employer in the country. As per the Economic Times-Great Place to Work Institute study, Intuit was adjudged number one, followed by American Express and Google. The list of best workplaces included companies such as Lemon Tree Hotels (4 th spot), SAP Labs (5), Adobe (6), NetApp (7), Teleperformance (8), Pitney Bowes (9) and DHL (10).

Perks, gifts may be taxed under regime 
Online human resource industry portal,, reported that all free amenities provided to an employee outside his or her CTC, or cost to company (total salary given to an employee), would attract GST. Also, the report said that GST would be applicable if an employee uses the company’s assets for personal use.

Amazon India’s former HR head, Kinjal Choudhary joins Volvo Eicher as group CHRO 
The former HR head at Amazon India, Kinjal Choudhary, has joined VE Commercial Vehicles, a Volvo Group and Eicher Motors joint venture, as the Senior Vice President and Group CHRO. Between Amazon and Volvo Eicher, Choudhary, had a small stint of seven months with China Fortune Land Development Co as senior director HR.

Ashwani Dahiya, Poonam Munshi & Neetu Wadhawan exit Cipla’s HR leadership team 
Three senior level executives have made an exit from Cipla’s HR team which includes, Ashwani Dahiya, Global Chief Talent Officer & Head of HR (Corporate); Poonam Munshi, Head of Talent Acquisition COE & Employer Branding; and Neetu Wadhawan, Head HR -International Business. Sources close to the development have confirmed it to HR Katha. The three executives are currently serving a three-month notice period. HRKatha contacted the senior executives at Cipla but they declined to comment.

Piramal beefs up its HR team with two new appointments 
Piramal Group has added two senior-level executives to its HR team. These include Aditya Adyar, who has been named the Head-HR for Piramal Group’s realty arm and Parneet Soni, who has joined in as general manager -total rewards for the group. Vikram Bector, Group Chief Human Resources Officer, Piramal Enterprises, shares with HRKatha, “Soni and Adyar have joined the HR team at a time when our businesses are experiencing growth."

In his new role at Sanofi, Shetty will be heading the HR function for the pharma and consumer healthcare business.
