The $28 billion business process outsourcing (BPO) exports industry added the lowest number of employees (36,000) in fiscal year 2018 in seven years, according to data from trade body Nasscom. It employs 1.2 million people globally.

Bangalore highest paying city; pharma, healthcare firms top paymasters 
Bangalore is the highest paying city in the country, while pharma and healthcare is the highest paying industry for talent in India, says a report. According to Randstad Insights, the research and analysis division of Randstad India, the average annual cost to company (CTC) for talent across all levels and functions in Bangalore stood at Rs 10.8 lakh per annum.

AI won't mean fewer jobs in India overall: Bibek Debroy 
Speaking at a Brookings India seminar on 'Manufacturing Jobs: Implications for Productivity & Inequality', Debroy said, "There will always be some job loss, that does not mean that there will be overall fewer jobs." There is no need to be worried about AI, instead India "should be more concerned about human development and skill development", he said.

Users can now directly type in the related job profile into the web and get job listings from across the popular job listing websites, online classifieds, and companies. It's raining jobs at Reliance Jio! Telco to hire 80,000 people in FY19 
Reliance Jio is planning to recruit about 75,000 to 80,000 people during this financial year, a senior company official said on Thursday. "About 1,57,000 people are on the rolls today...I will say another 75,000 to 80,000 people," Reliance Jio's Chief Human Resources Officer Sanjay Jog told reporters.

Data scientists get most salary hikes in startups 
Data scientists and front-end developers were the roles that received the maximum compensation increases in startups in 2017. Both received an average salary increase of about 25% last year, compared to the year before, according to data shared by recruitment firm Belong.

Vodafone, Idea may let go of over 5000 employees 
The ongoing merger process of Vodafone India and Idea Cellular could see about a fourth of the telcos’ combined 21,000-strong workforce lose jobs in the next few months as the companies look to save on costs, eliminate duplication and improve efficiency, people familiar with the matter said.

In an estimate-defying Q4, TCS announces 120% variable pay for employees 
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) doled out 120% quarterly variable pay in fourth quarter ended March 31st as it passed on benefits of strong quarter results. The company also announced salary hikes for FY19 in the range of 2-6% depending on geography.

Standard Chartered promotes Sachin Gupte as India HR head 
British lender Standard Chartered today promoted Sachin Gupte as the head of its human resources for the country. Gupte has been with the bank for the last 16 years and had stints in Mumbai, London, Chennai and Singapore, with the last role being as the head of HR for global banking and transaction banking, an official statement said.

Tata Sons appoints Nupur Mallick as new Group Chief HR Officer 
Salt to software conglomerate Tata Sons appointed Nupur Mallick as the group’s Chief Human Resource Officer. Mallick is at present Director, Human Resources, for Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in the UK and Ireland. She will report to Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran in her new role, Tata Sons said in a statement.

GSK’s HR department restructured 
Ongmu Gombu, EVP-HR for Indian Subcontinent (ISC) at GSK Consumer Healthcare has been elevated to a pan-Asia role. She will now be vice-president, HR operations lead, Asia. Gombu has been managing HR for GSK ISC for the last three years.
